DRESSMAKER The New KITE RUNNER

USA Today designates The Dressmaker of Khair Khana, which releases today, as the “next big Afghanistan book” (following in the footsteps of The Kite Runner and Three Cups of Tea). It’s “…backed by a perfect blend of publishing elements — a remarkable Afghan heroine, a high-profile writer, bookseller support and a marketing campaign with a celebrity roster.” That celebrity roster includes… Tina Brown (who featured a cover story by the author in the first issue of Newsweek magazine under her editorship) and Angelina Jolie.

Written by Gayle Tzemach Lemmon, a former ABC New reporter, the book is about a young Afghan woman who became an entrepreneur to rescue her family. Libraries we checked are currently showing light holds on light ordering. The book is currently #683 on Amazon sales rankings, but a much higher #233 on B&N.com.
