WSJ Summer Books Preview

All of a sudden, it seems that The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake has gone from a possible sleeper to a sure bet. The Wall Street Journal‘s Summer Books Preview lists it as one of sixteen “Big Reads” of the summer, along with Richard North Paterson’s In the Name of Honor and Carl Hiaasen’s Star Island and just one other debut novel, Mr. Peanut by Adam Ross.

Libraries are beginning to show heavy holds on light ordering for Lemon Cake.

The much-touted The Passage by Justin Cronin also gets a nod, but in the Thrillers and Mysteries section. We’ve been thinking of it as science fiction, but the WSJ justifies putting it in the thriller category because  it “combines suspense, horror and science fiction.” He was also included in Sarah Weinman’s BEA thriller panel, along with Karin Slaughter and Lee Child, so we stand corrected.

The number of holds on The Passage and Lemon Cake are very close in some libraries; some are even showing more for Lemon Cake.
