Bishop’s Daughter

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Poet Honor Moore’s memoir of her father, to be published in May, is excerpted in the March 3rd issue of the New Yorker. The magazine’s Web site features a podcast interview with the author (which you can listen to on the site or download).

Moore’s father was the Episcopal bishop of New York from 1972 to 1989. The father of nine children, Moore also lead a secret homosexual life. PW ‘s starred review appears in next week’s Nonfiction Reviews. It concludes:

At the dramatic heart of this engrossing family chronicle is the ultimately triumphant struggle of the daughter, who suffered her own sexual confusion and years of therapy, to reconstruct her father’s personal history in an effort to understand his behavior and thereby forgive.
