Kate DiCamillo’s new book, The Magician’s Elephant came out yesterday and our own Lisa Von Drasek reviews it in the Barnes and Noble Review. It’s up to DiCamillo’s own very high standards, she says, and will be enjoyed by both adults and children.

Holds are heavy. One large library is showing 225 on 45 copies; another has 102 copies on order.

DiCamillo’s 2004 Newbery-winner The Tale of Despereaux became an animated feature in 2008 and the new book is set to follow it to the big screen. Martin Hynes, who is adapting the book for Fox, told Variety recently that he sees the movie as being similar in tone to “The Princess Bride — something that kids will enjoy, but adults will love on other levels.”
