Ted Kennedy Memoir Getting Press
Stories are breaking about True Compass, the book of memoirs that Ted Kennedy finished just before his death, coming Sept. 14. The AP, New York Times and New York Daily News all did off-the-book-page stories, picked up by newspapers all over the country.
Today, Michiko Kakutani writes the first review in the NYT, saying that Kennedy writes “with searching candor about the losses, joys and lapses of his life.”
Library holds are mounting; this may be a political memoir that people actually read, rather than buy as a tribute to put on their shelves.
The headlines about the book reflect each news outlet’s character, ranging from salacious to more respectful:
The New York Daily News — two stories:
- Kennedy insists he was not an alcoholic in new memoir; A curious focus for the story, since the writer admits that the book “touches on his drinking a handful of times.”
AP – Kennedy denies affair with Kopechne in new memoir
NY Times – Kennedy Memoir Doesn’t Ignore Lows
