‘Beedle the Bard’ a Hit

The new issue of People (Dec 22; Tom Cruise on the cover, telling “The Truth About My Family”) reviews J.K. Rowling’s Tales of Beedle the Bard, giving it 4 of 4 stars and making it a People Pick. The reviewer cautions parents that two of the tales “may be too dark to read at bedtime” (no guidance on which ones), and admits that some of it won’t mean much to “Potter neophytes, but for fans [the tales] are an irresistible reminder of a much missed world.”

In today’s issue, USA Today reveals that the book will hit #1 on their bestseller list, which comes out tomorrow.

People also interviews Alec Greven, the nine-year-old whose book How to Talk to Girls was just optioned for a movie by 20th Century Fox for the low- to mid-six figures.

And we thought making a movie of He’s Just Not That Into You (a comment that became a Sex and the City episode, then a book, and now a movie starring nearly friggin’ EVERYONE) was a stretch.
