Studs Terkel; ‘Curiosity Never Killed This Cat’

I guess it had to happen eventually. Studs Terkel died yesterday at 96. His son, Dan Terkell (he added an extra “l” to his name), said, “He just went very quickly and was in no pain at all.” That’s exactly what we would have wished for him.

Gary Wills said of Terkel, “He was somebody who made you go away a better person.” Those of us who heard him speak at various library conferences know what he means.

The NY Times quotes Terkel as saying he had no trouble staying curious throughout his long life and he’d like his epitaph to be, “Curiosity never killed this cat.”
