A Sure Thing
European betting on Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio in the last days before he was announced the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature was so strong that bookmaker Ladbrokes cut off wagers. It seems those were not lucky guesses. In an AP story (which appears in the current issue of USA Today), Horace Engdahl, the permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy admits, “I have a strong suspicion that there has been leak in the system.”
