A Fifth Le Clezio Title

Yesterday, we listed four titles by the new Nobel Prize laureate available in English in this country; Publishers Weekly has uncovered one more,The Prospector, published by Verba Mundi, an imprint of David R. Godine.

Despite their supposedly obscurity in the U.S., all of the titles have received reviews from the prepub media, as evidenced by the listings on Amazon. The Prospector  was reviewed by both Publishers Weekly and Library Journal. LJ called it “haunting and lyrical.” PW said, “His writing is deeply evocative…but many of his lengthy descriptions…are overwrought.”

Of the books cited as most significant in the author’s Nobel Prize biography, the only two available in English the U.S. are Onitsha and The Prospector. PW reports that Godine plans to publish Désert (1980) next year “considered [Le Clezio’s] definitive breakthrough” book, according to the NY Times. Currently, Godine is going back to press for a paperback edition of The Prospector.
