Spring Books

Slate looks at what their editors are reading this Spring. Of course, politics dominates the list, but, amazingly, one book of poetry is included (The One-Strand River: Poems, 1994-2007 , Richard Kenney, Knopf) and, even more amazingly, a book of poetry criticism (The Modern Element: Essays on Contemporary Poetry, by Adam Kirsch, W.W. Norton).

Two of the nonfiction titles on the list have been getting attention:

The Post-American World
Fareed Zakaria

  • Hardcover: $25.95
  • Publisher: W. W. Norton (May 5, 2008)
  • ISBN-10: 039306235X
  • ISBN-13: 978-0393062359
  • Audio CD: Unabridged, $39.95
  • Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio; (May 1, 2008)
  • ISBN-10: 0743576853
  • ISBN-13: 978-0743576857

This just went on the Amazon Top 100 list and is now at #35. All libraries I checked show it on order.

The Bin Ladens: An Arabian Family in the American Century
by Steve Coll

  • Hardcover: $35.00
  • Publisher: Penguin Press (April 1, 2008)
  • ISBN-10: 1594201641
  • ISBN-13: 978-1594201646
  • Audio CD: Abridged, $39.95
  • Publisher: Penguin Audio (April 1, 2008)

While lower in sales rank on Amazon (#337), this one shows heavier reserves at libraries.
