Attention for the “Last Lecture”

At the end of January, we told you about a new addition to Hyperion’s spring list, The Last Lecture, a book about Randy Pausch, a dying professor and the moving “last lecture” he gave his students in September. The story moved Oprah who had Pausch reprise the lecture on her show, Hyperion signed him for a book (reportedly, for a $6.7 million advance) and Pausch and his co-author began a race against time to complete it. The book releases tomorrow and, happily, Pausch is still alive.
Media attention is building. USA Today and the New York Times just covered it. It’s the cover story for Parade magazine this Sunday. Diane Sawyer will do a one-hour ABC TV Special on it tomorrow night (10 p.m. EST), it will be on GMA the following morning.

Ordering is modest in most libraries I checked and well within 2 to 1 hold ratios, but that may change as attention builds.
